Meet the Teacher
Hello! |
|
My name is Edgar Brown. I am the art teacher at Williamson Middle school, succeeding Mary Wilkinson, who worked very hard to provide the students here with a beautifully large and adequate work space before retiring in 2005. I will forever be indebted to her because I began teaching in a brand new art room, #108 (the old multi-purpose room, where the district vote was held). I grew up in Canandaigua, attending Canandaigua Academy and the Community College of the Finger Lakes (now FLCC). After a break in the working world I returned to academia, earning both my BFA and MST degrees at Rochester Institute of Technology. Before becoming an art teacher I taught and experienced a variety of things. I built exhibits at the Strong Museum. I was the founding president and long-time board member of the Friends of Ganondagan State Historic Site, Inc. I was an environmental educator at RMSC's Cumming Nature Center. I gave public workshops on flintknapping and primitive technologies, and I was a visiting artist in a number of schools through the BOCES Arts-in-Education program. I continue to teach art, and practice Spanish, at various farms in the region through the Geneseo Migrant Center. While it's true that I love the small town charm, I have no plans to move to Williamson just yet. My young family has just started school in our own small-town district and we love living in the woods atop the highest hill in Ontario County.
