The Elements of Art |
|
This year we will be expanding on what we learned last year with the Elements of Art. We will continue to use them in our projects throughout the semester. The Elements of Art Line - a continuous mark. Lines can be fat, thin, horizontal, vertical, diagonal, curved, straight, jagged, scallopped, dotted, and so on.... Color - what we see from reflected light. Color is hue, neutral, tint, or shade. Value - differences in color ranging from the lightest to the darkest. Shape/Form - Shape is two-dimensional. Form is three-dimensional. Both enclose space and can be geometric or organic. Texture - how things feel (actual) or look like they feel (visual). Texture is rough, smooth, bumpy, prickly, scratchy, etc. Space - the area between, around, above, below, or within. Space can be positive or negative. Space can organize parts of a composition be creating depth (overlapping, aerial perspective, linear perspective).
